Can you still remember the famous virus attack last May of 2000? Well, who could forget the “I Love You” virus that swept through banks, securities firms, and Web companies in the United States? It was very controversial due to the fact that the virus resulted in some security breaches weeks after weeks and months after months because it stole network passwords from a computer and sent them to a remote location. With “I Love You” virus, what happened was it spreads quickly among users of Microsoft Outlook and corporate networks that use the Microsoft Exchange e-mail server because it sends a copy of itself to every e-mail address in a recipient’s Outlook address book. Basically, people tagged it as the bad virus and it was a virus worth stopping for. I even learned at the later part that a person from my country, Philippines was the one who made it and I feel so real disappointed about what happened.
With the viruses spreading all over the world, I guess a lot of people most especially the curious and the affected ones are looking for ways to control these things, and guess what? Earlier today, reports said that the country Japan, who suffered its fair share of cyber attacks created the so called the “good virus” which works by tracing the sources of a cyber-attack – not just the immediate source, but all those that have been used to transmit it. It can thus get to the source of an attack to disable it. Well, people from the said country are having some discussions whether it is legal to use it but if they may ask me, why not? There is a saying that to defeat someone, use the same defense he/she is using.
