When I was younger, I used to fight back against my parents, wanted to be heard by my relatives and others and most especially, I don’t want anybody coming out my way. I’m the weird kind of type of person (well, at least I knew) and people thinks different about me… But hey! I still had a best friend then who listened and gave me advice once I’m down. Well, looking back from those years compared to now is quite a lot huge in “difference”. Why? Because people today, most especially women have a different ways of expressing their selves, It’s either they post it on Facebook, Tweet it or post it somewhere in any social meadia sites. That is why people, most especially women’s new best friend today is the tablet that they can carry and probably talk to in some ways once connected to the internet, in fact, researchers found out that If you’re thinking of a new iPad, Kindle Fire, or other tablet, there’s a pretty good chance you’re a woman.

As reported earlier “Maritz Research conducted its holiday tablet poll of 2,485 consumers in November, but just released an analysis of the data. The firm then broke down the tablet market into four different types of tablet customers based on the responses–low-end buyers, newcomers, single-minded buyers, and tablet-committed buyers. There are layers of marketing data baked into these profiles to help tablet makers try to add a little more of that secret sauce that’s been selling so many iPads and Kindle Fires, but what I found most interesting is that statistically, three of the four types are dominated by women.”

Technically, women are very emotional and the issue of comfort and companionship are hard things for men, I mean women can talk to men but once women indulge into the deeper meaning of the said emotion, men would make a wall in between. Why? That is what I don’t know but what I knew is that women should be thankful to the new gadgets and technology where we, as a woman myself can directly express ourselves wherever we are and Hey! It won’t talk back but just listen.

Can you still remember the famous virus attack last May of 2000? Well, who could forget the “I Love You” virus that swept through banks, securities firms, and Web companies in the United States? It was very controversial due to the fact that the virus resulted in some security breaches weeks after weeks and months after months because it stole network passwords from a computer and sent them to a remote location. With “I Love You” virus, what happened was it spreads quickly among users of Microsoft Outlook and corporate networks that use the Microsoft Exchange e-mail server because it sends a copy of itself to every e-mail address in a recipient’s Outlook address book. Basically, people tagged it as the bad virus and it was a virus worth stopping for. I even learned at the later part that a person from my country, Philippines was the one who made it and I feel so real disappointed about what happened.

With the viruses spreading all over the world, I guess a lot of people most especially the curious and the affected ones are looking for ways to control these things, and guess what? Earlier today, reports said that the country Japan, who suffered its fair share of cyber attacks created the so called the “good virus” which works by tracing the sources of a cyber-attack – not just the immediate source, but all those that have been used to transmit it. It can thus get to the source of an attack to disable it. Well, people from the said country are having some discussions whether it is legal to use it but if they may ask me, why not? There is a saying that to defeat someone, use the same defense he/she is using.

December 25, 2011 and I am thinking on what article I could probably write about in connection with the celebration… I am very much aware that here in the Philippines people celebrate Christmas differently compared to other countries; I know this for sure because I have asked some of my foreign friends and relatives. And what is exciting here are the gifts we get from our friends, relatives and most especially from our families, its not that we are expecting but we are excited about what gifts do we get this time. And at our age right now, smartphones are a hot Christmas gift to be given knowing that people are opt to the reality of the technology age and I’m pretty sure millions of people will be opening up a new Apple iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Motorola Droid Razor, or some other shiny new device this week…and trying to figure out how to use it. For those who can go and join, what’s the great deal here is that Verizon is conducting a FREE class to help the none techie guys — and you don’t even have to be a Verizon customer.

Most phone applications are self-explanatory but many are not too and this is the very reason why Verizon, a known company started the idea of making a class for these kind of stuff considering the fact that a lot of people especially for technology-challenged people like our parents who still have to learn way huge things about smartphones and its applications or even the elderly couple who didn’t realize they were recording themselves with their webcam.

If you bought a smartphone for someone like this, expect to get some calls with questions like, “What is an app?”, or “How to change the time on the clock?” And probably “How to upload a clip on Facebook?”. So like what I have mentioned, Verizon is here to help this holiday season with Wireless Workshops. The company is offering workshops for Android, and for Apple’s iOS platform. The classes are free, just be a fast learner and they are available to everyone — Verizon customer or not.

Get the most out of your new smartphone, if Verizon is just near in your area then I don’t think there is a problem going, take a class and learn a lot of things, grab the opportunity because aside from it is free, you might want to also learn the things you missed from the technology that you have right now. Contact your local Verizon store to learn more, and to find out what the schedule is so you can arrange to attend one of the free workshops. And, although they’re not smartphones, you can probably learn a thing or two to find your way around an iPad or Android tablet too.

Shopping online is quite fascinating compared to going to the store personally. Aside from saving your time; you can also avoid the crowd. However, cybercriminals often leverage in-demand items, such as the iPhone 4S, to create scams like this one most especially this yuletide season where people are most likely to take the betterment of the promotions and good deals. Cybercriminals respond by churning out fake promos and deals, all to steal information and to spread malware. Basically, what I’m referring to about is the bidding site eBay where people frequently visit to look for cheaper gadgets, phones and almost everything. Trend Micro, a computer security firm said that the attack can fool potential buyers into giving out their online financial credentials to cybercriminals.

As reported, the said fake eBay pages are hosted on domains that are followed by /www.ebay.ie/, somehow tricky for me and I’m pretty sure lots of people will also be deceived. All the links in the fake page will lead to the legitimate one, except for the ‘Buy It Now.’ Clicking ‘Buy It Now’ leads to a fake login page that asks users to enter personal information.

Well, if you are a constant eBay buyer/bidder, you will be able determine that there is something wrong during the process. You can really tell yourself that this is most likely a scam that aims to steal money and personal information from you, but sad to say there are first timers and a lot of innocent buyers too. The iPhone 4S is one of the top smart phones in this year’s holiday sales, and clearly the cybercriminals taking advantage of its demand most especially knowing the fact that iPhone 4S is in much of demand to the public. In addition, it was also mentioned that you will also notice that the post the cybercriminals chose to replicate is one by a seller with a good reputation, to gain the trust of potential victims as what was mentioned by Trend Micro. So if ever you are in doubt, please make sure and double check it over to avoid being a victim.

A lot of people lost their lives without them expecting that the typhoon is really that tough and that their lives will just end in that very moment. As of the moment, the tragedy is still so fresh that most affected people are feeling so drained and displaced and they do not know what to do next, how to spend their Christmas and New Year and where to start with and what to start with. Majority of the family members, friends, neighbors and their acquaintances are astray and they do not know where to find them. A good thing is that there are lots of help given to the affected provinces and the government is doing everything that they can to also do something about this tragic incident. There are also volunteers lending their assistance and mostly all agencies in the Philippines are rendering every help that they can provide.

Internationally, I believe that there are help dispensed and one good thing is that Google has created a Person Finder tool to help people in the Philippines locate missing persons after tropical storm “Sendong” devastated parts of the country. This is already a huge donation from the leader of search engine to create the said tool and is very much appreciated by the Filipino people.

To start with, Google’s Person Finder tool allows users to input names to either find a person or file a report for a missing person. The tool is in English and Filipino, and as reported as of Monday afternoon 200 reports were filed. On top of helpful information, the tool also spotlights how to donate to the Red Cross in the Philippines online or through text messaging. Personally, I would like to thank Google for this kind of help and hoping that what we are experiencing here right now will just pass as a challenged to all Filipino people.

Yes, we all managed to live with them only a decade or so ago; at this point of time geologists now refer to it as the Pre-Mobilian Age but the real deal here is could I really survive without one now? HHmmm. Doubtful! Also, just think of all the other applications they boast and probably the upcoming ones that makes our daily lives manageable. I do acquiesce with the statement that in this new era, people are really depending with their cell phones and cannot live without using it, I’m one of the evidence to say so and I am thinking that maybe we did not notice that cell phones have changed the way we live and communicate with others. Cell phones have made us able to communicate with other people without have to do face to face interaction, obviously most especially for this global village cell phones really make us feel no more distance with other people around the world.

The development of cell phones have invented a smart phone, and smart phones say it all, it is pretty smart indeed and I would say that it is really making most people addicted to using it. Smartphones have made people able to do a lot of things in just one gadget and for sure you can multi-task everything by using one without worrying of where to look for and the like. Indisputably, people are going to put everything to their smartphones. With your smart phone, you can send your e-mail, take a note for your meeting result, make a remainder for your schedule, listening to the music, call your mother, searching address by using GPS and everything in the same time, and with all these, I would call it amazing.

And not so long ago, Smart phones killed the face to face interaction between people in the society; I have noticed that most people preferred to communicate through social media or by using instant messenger of the so called social networking sites. Well, I’m really hoping for the best on these advancements and not to lose the importance of the real communication but it won’t take the fact that I cannot live without a cell phone.

Every time we look for someone, something or somewhere we immediately type Google.com, we even recommend it to others and it’s a site that we are very comfortable of but what is Google by the way? I came across to search for its meaning and I found out that Google makes connecting on the web more like connecting in the real world. We can share our thoughts, links and photos with the right circles. Use easy, spontaneous video chat to strike up conversations with as many as nine people at once. Get everyone on the same page with fast, simple group chat. We’re very excited about the new approach to sharing we’ve created through Google+, but this is really just the beginning….Exactly, just the beginning because earlier today, I found out that Google Hangout lets you video chat even without webcam! This is a very good new to all of the social networker (mostly especially) and of course to everybody.

Most of the time, our schedules are very frantic where the thought of spending quality times with our love ones is not merely possible like before. Physical distance is a hindrance too but you know what? They don’t have to. With Google+ Hangouts, we can go beyond “status updates,” and connect with the people we care about using multi-person video. For free. The desire to be online using our webcam to see the people whom we want to talk to is so old school because with Google+ Hangouts , video chats are more accessible to everyone to everybody. And just today, Google were rolling out a number of improvements that make it even easier to say hello to our loved ones, face-to-face-to-face.

In addition, Google senior vice president of Engineering Vic Gundotra says, “nearly everyone has a telephone, and today we’re making it possible to dial-in anyone, from almost any country, directly into your hangout.” Calls from within Google Hangouts are free to the US and Canada while the price of international calls can be found at https://www.google.com/voice/rates?p=hangout. This is pretty amazing and a good news for the holiday seasons, thanks Google.

I have been reading articles and honestly I’m very much curious about the latest application iPhone 4 has, the so called SIRI. What is Siri by the way? It’s funny how I asked myself the said question. As described by the web, Siri is the intelligent personal assistant that helps you get things done just by asking. It allows you to use your voice to send messages, schedule meetings, place phone calls, and more. Although some people say that they are not really sure voice interaction is such a good idea for the fact that it has been available for ages and per experienced nobody uses it.But the good news is that Siri isn’t like traditional voice recognition software that requires you to remember keywords and speak specific commands. Siri understands your natural speech, and it asks you questions if it needs more information to complete a task.

Apple is very innovative and is able to bring about the voice control idea to a new level by using Artificial Intelligence. Siri’s artificial intelligence certify the application place the request in context and make smarter decisions about what you are trying to do. Needless Siri can manipulate numerous functions of your iPhone, including the new Reminders App, which is obviously reminding you to do things based on your location. This allows you to use Siri to remind you to grab something when you get home, or to do something as soon as you get to work. Siri waits for you to stop talking, but you can also tap the microphone icon to tell Siri you’re done talking. This is useful when there’s a lot of background noise. As I was looking at the video for me to perfectly understand all in all, I can positively say that Siri is something!!! I find it great and very helpful and it can also avoid us from accidents most especially when driving. I mean with these lines I’m very much enlightened and can’t wait to have this application.

It was quite appealing that talks about a character named Andrew Martin who requested an unknown operation from a robotic surgeon. However, the robot refuses, as the operation is harmful and violates the First Law of Robotics, which says a robot may never harm a human being. Andrew, however, changes its mind, telling it that he is not a human being. I find it nice and catchy most especially that in our age today, robotics is strong and technology innovates these things. The future is not yet written and nobody knows whether robots are dangerous or not. What is for real sure is the fact that humans, being the curious beings are developing new kind of robotics and will enhance them more.

The movie, is an evident that people and robots go together in this life side by side, even hand to hand in some spheres of life they are even interchangeable and nobody can really tell into what this opposition “Human and Robots” will translate. Robots and humans that lives and prospers together…Or robots will realize they don’t need that much…

As a matter of fact, in Japan a company called Kawada Industries has developed a humanoid robot that’s specifically designed to work alongside human beings. It what they call the Nextage Robots which is equipped with a high-speed stereo-camera and two arms that have 12 joints each and can be positioned within 30 microns. When a human worker gets near, the robot stops working immediately for safety reasons. Looking at humanoid robots, I get the same sense of power, but in reverse. Extra joints and degrees of freedom give these machines the potential to surpass the manufacturing ability of most humans and somehow it scares me that they might rule over as well.

For the past years, I have been switching from one telecom company to the other (of course I have a lot of Sim Cards now) due to the fact that they are very competitive. There promos are very enticing and every time one company has a very attractive catch people will really feel that the need to switch is possible. The competition has been going on for quite some time now and as a consumer, the attraction is fairly distributed to mostly all companies (haha). But guess what is crucial with these networks? During, holiday seasons, they would cut off the unlimited service or mostly their publicities (I’m talking about the promos) and profit from it…I mean it’s not fair!!! Why would they do that? Consumers in the Philippines are really mad about this reality and for some reason we are looking for something (probably another network that will come out) that will play righteously with the consumers. But hey! All of our prayers were answered, thanks a lot! Earlier today the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has issued two circulars ordering local telcos to keep their “unlimited” offerings during the crucial holiday season when mobile and Internet traffic is at its heaviest.

As reported today “The NTC apparently released the directives to avoid a repeat of last year’s incident when the local operators suspended their bucket offerings during the Christmas and New Year celebrations” This is really a lot to all Filipinos, knowing that paying less is more for others. In addition the Memorandum Order 9-11-2011, which was issued by the NTC on November 22, 2011, specifically provided mobile operators not to exclude December 23-26 and 30-31, 2011, as well as January 1-2 for their unlimited text and voice services. On the other hand, Memorandum Order 9-11-2011 issued on November 23, also mandates the telcos to provide uninterrupted service on the same dates for their unlimited broadband access offerings.

With this news, I’m so thankful and even grateful to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) for listening and hearing the Filipino people’s plea. This is a lot to all of us and I’m pretty sure that everyone will have a great and amazing Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
